Power Yoga
Have you been practicing meditative yoga and feeling like it's not quite what you're looking for? Do you feel like you need to push it a little harder in your practice? I have 2 words for you. Power. Yoga.
What is Power Yoga?
Power Yoga is a type of yoga, that allows you to train your body while garnering physical, mental, and spiritual benefits in the process. It likely was started in the USA and has been said to be an enhanced and dynamic version of classic yoga. In essence it is an energetic vinyasa style yoga.
Power Yoga is great fighting stress, back pain, depression and anxiety all while restoring the psycho-physical rhythms. Additionally, due to the high energy and occasional intensity, the benefits can often be recognized quicker (shorter and less frequent practices).
Who is it suitable for?
It is advisable that Power Yoga is carried out by following specific courses with a teacher who does not strain the student, but who follows them in their personal path. It is, in fact, a series of postures, breathing exercises and stretching, which make it a little more complex than Yoga Nidra. Power Yoga can be considered a complete physical activity for those who practice it regularly. Generally, a Power Yoga session last about 50-60 minutes. To obtain the best results, expect to practice 2-3 sessions per week. Power Yoga has no contraindications and is a physical activity open to everyone (if you have medical conditions or are pregnant, please advise with a doctor first). Also, it is advisable to wear comfortable clothing, which allows you to move freely during Power Yoga sessions. This practice involves a high level of concentration, which can also be achieved through the use of a backing track. Consider practicing Power Yoga on an empty stomach.
The best positions
The exercises, sequences and positions (aka asanas) of classic yoga are not, in and of themselves, capable of creating a rhythm of work that can satisfy an excellent level of aerobic training and it is for this reason that, in Power Yoga, exercises from modern gymnastics are added. This makes Power Yoga a complete physical activity, as well as new and able to train the muscles, free the joints and condition the body using the mind. Power Yoga classes begin with breathing exercises and fairly easy multiarticular movements, which help to warm up the body, introducing oxygen into the lungs and helping to reach the optimal level of concentration. The warm-up phase lasts about 5-10 minutes, which is followed by dynamic and fluid combinations of asanas to create joint flexibility and trains the muscles.
